I don't have any neat little story blurbs to go with this piece. Though there is something to say about this piece and that is it wasn't actually supposed to exist.
This was actually the second or third Surrealis Grimoire piece I attempted to color months upon months ago. I eventually gave up and deleted the work in progress file from my harddrive completely because the piece seemingly did not want to be colored. I tried though. Oh how I tried. But I eventually slotted the Ash Basin as a page that just wouldn't have a colored alternate.

Then I was looking through the Grimoire pages and happened upon the this page. And suddenly I knew what I had to do all around. I had to keep it simple. Go for two, maybe... MAYBE three colors at most. And keep it short but sweet in a way. Not going in for the usual in depth shadow and shading I tend to do on these piece.

An hour later, the Ash Basin alternate page is ready to go.

Enjoy.

I love, love, love your art. It's SO unique, as well as your ideas. I wish I was better at describing what I mean! All I can do is stare, though. To me, it has the feeling of a strange dream or something. It gives me chills but it's so beautiful.

I really appreciate your comments on these! This project has and continues to be really close to my heart and really important to me. I put a lot into these pieces so anytime that someone else likes them, it really means a lot! Especially since there aren't too terribly many people that seem to take notice of them!

A lot of the Surrealis Grimoire is actually pulled straight from my own dream imagery! "The Pilgrimage", "And I'll Be There", "Assiega Cusumerick" and "The Custodians" are pulled directly from my own dreams.

There's still many more to come too. The project is eventually going to be compromised of 80 different unique pieces to fill a large spiral bound sketch book.

Oh, wow. I can tell they do have a lot of meaning and feeling put into them. There's just something so... I can't even explain it. Deep, strange, beautiful. Also, I'm so excited to hear about the project...are you planning on having it for sale, by chance?

Well currently everything that done and on display I can actually sell as prints due to having a very snazzy printer that can make the prints look just as awesome, if not better than what you see on the screen in front of you. I actually still have a number of copies of each left over from a convention I sold at earlier in the year.

But I'm also considering that once the entire 80 page series is done, I want to take both the black and white and colored versions of each piece, plus the little write-ups and compile it into one huge bound book through maybe Lulu or another online self publishing service.

But until then, if any one wants just one or a few single prints of any piece, I can do that myself at far better prices than going through a third party.

That is SO cool! I'd love to maybe purchase a print or two sometime! Your art is just too cool not to. Or especially the book if/when you get it put together through Lulu and such. Also, this is so weird, but I just looked at your profile- I'm from Peoria too! (Though I still reside there!)
But yes, I'll definitely keep that in mind, thank you! How much would you wish to sell your prints for?

Yeah the book is still a ways off since I'm just now starting on page 20 of 80. Though I'm also tossing around the idea of maybe doing a book once the first forty are down and two different volumes. I'll figure it out eventually though!

I charge $15 for prints and that includes shipping (Though if you order multiple prints each print after the first one is only going to cost $10 each). The actual prints are glossy 8.5" x 11". I also make sure that everything that gets shipped out is protected by being sandwiched between cardboard to insure nothing gets bent.
